Lava Rocks Challenge - Resource of the Month(s)

This resource was delayed because, well, July is a crazy month in my family! We always have something going on, including 3 birthdays! So, this Resource of the Month is going to be for July and August!

With back-to-school looming, it's time to start looking for some great ice breaker activities that also help build a positive classroom community. The Lava Rocks Challenge is the prefect activity to start off the school year!

The Details

This resource is a full lesson plan written out for you, so it's easy to follow. It includes questions to ask that will get your students working on higher order thinking and even comes with a handy PowerPoint presentation so you can display the rules and questions for everyone to see.

The focus of this resource is two-fold: team building and social/emotional development. Students will learn to work together, listen to each other, problem solve, and collaborate; and it's all disguised in a fun game where the floor is lava!

This activity is great for most grade levels and can easily be adjusted to meet the needs of your classroom. I will say that it might be too challenging for students in K-1, and might be too juvenile for middle and high school students. It's really up to you to gauge how this will fit with your class.

All in all, this is a great activity to occupy some time during back-to-school and it will help jumpstart that great classroom community you hope to build. Get the digital download today over on Teachers Pay Teachers: Lava Rocks Challenge. Don't forget to leave a review - I can't wait to hear how it goes!
